Tennis Specialist
Overview
Camp Walt Whitman’s tennis program is among the very best in camping. Our tennis instructors have the opportunity to teach lessons to campers between the ages of 8 and 15 on 11 beautiful clay courts in both group and individual classes.
Dave Porter, an 11-time national champion, head coach at BYU-Hawaii and past president of the USPTA, directs this program and also provides instruction for his coaches.
As a tennis specialist, you’ll not only be teaching a lifetime skill to enthusiastic campers, you’ll absorb the skills you’ve developed in a new way. Along with coaching in tournaments and inter-camp competitions, you’ll learn more about your own tennis game and the major components that will help you continue to develop as a player: physical, technical, tactical, strategic, mental/emotional, environmental.
Patience in both teaching and playing is another key skill you’ll gain, which will help on the court and in life. Also invaluable is the networking you’ll be doing with the top coaches and professionals who direct the program.
