Gymnastics Specialist
Overview
Our gymnastics pavilion is one of the most popular destinations in camp. With an eye always on safety, our gymnastics instructors teach our campers tumbling and floor exercises on our spring floor, work on balance and technique on our beams, focus on basics with our uneven bars and show our campers how to soar on the vault.
Even campers who have never done gymnastics often surprise themselves by how much they learn by summer’s end. For Fran Perry, a former gymnastics specialist, one of her all-time highlights was taking the girls to an inter-camp competition, something the campers prepare for each summer. “Most of them had never competed in gymnastics before, and some had never done gymnastics,” said Perry, “and so many of them shocked themselves with how well they did.”
Camp Walt Whitman came back as the highest scoring camp, but that wasn’t the only reward. Said Perry: “The bonds you make with these campers are so strong and they remember all the help you gave them in their confidence and having fun!”
