COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

The information below is intended to provide you with what our plans are today, March 29th, about COVID protocols for this coming summer. However, as changes are rapidly occurring in testing, vaccines, COVID variants, and guidelines, we have not yet made final decisions on the information below.

Camp will operate in a modified bubble:

  • We will think of camp this summer as a castle with a moat and a draw bridge.  When campers and staff arrive, we will raise the bridge, and the bridge will only be lowered as necessary. By limiting the number of people coming in and out of camp this summer, we can reduce the opportunities for someone to bring COVID into our community.
  • Because of the necessity to run camp in our modified bubble, it is unlikely that we will be able to invite families to join us for Visiting Day. Of course, we realize the important role that Visiting Day plays in the life of campers and parents.  For this reason, we are working on ways to provide a virtual visiting day experience enabling everyone to feel connected.
  • We do not anticipate having any inter-camp competitions (these will be replaced with new intra-camp competitions) nor do we believe that we will be able to travel on our special age group trips to Maine, Canada, Hawaii, Lake Placid, or White Water Rafting.

Health and Safety:

  • In order to minimize the chances that someone brings COVID to camp this summer, we are planning for a three-tiered testing regiment for all campers and staff. This will include a required test 3-5 days prior to arrival, a test performed by our medical staff upon arrival, and a third test 5-7 days after arrival.
  • We anticipate daily temperature checks and health screenings will be a required part of camp this summer.
  • We will have multiple Health Center locations this summer so that campers with any COVID symptoms will not be in the same location as campers seeking medical care for other reasons. We will also increase the size of our medical team.
  • We will have a team of housekeepers disinfecting all cabins, bathrooms, and public areas regularly throughout the day.
  • Handwashing times will be built into campers’ daily life and hand sanitizer will be spread throughout camp.

Cohorts and Mask Wearing:

  • We anticipate that our campers will be in small cohorts for at least the beginning of the summer. Each cabin group will be its own cohort. Cohorts will be viewed like a household– when within their cohort, campers will not have to practice social-distancing or mask-wearing.  When outside of the cohort, or when cohorts are together, campers should expect to wear masks and social distance.
  • For the first 6-8 days of camp (until we get the results of our 3rd COVID tests) each cabin group will remain its own cohort. After this time period, our intention is to grow cohorts to include all cabins of the same age and gender. Our hope is that we will be able to continue to increase the size of our cohorts throughout the summer.

Family Responsibilities Before Camp Starts:
We all share in the responsibility of creating our camp bubble and the entire camp is only as healthy as our weakest link.  Camp really starts a week before arrival as the camp bubble is a shared philosophy rather than an actual perimeter. Therefore, in addition to each child getting PCR tested 3-5 days prior to camp (details to follow) we are going to ask that in the week leading up to camp, campers and camp parents avoid any high-risk behaviors.  This might include sleep-overs, indoor graduation parties, weddings, Bar or Bat Mitzvahs or situations where campers or parents are in high-density settings, are unlikely to be masked, or risk unnecessary exposure. School, where children are masked and supervised by their teachers, is not considered a high-risk behavior.

What happens if my child tests positive for Covid-19 right before camp?
If a child tests positive on their pre-camp PCR test, he or she would be unable to come to camp until they isolate for 10 days, as per CDC guidelines, and are cleared by their home physician and our camp physician.

What happens if my child tests positive for Covid-19 while at camp?
If a camper tests positive for Covid-19, that child will immediately be isolated from the rest of our camper population regardless of whether they are symptomatic or not.  Any camper who tests positive will need to be picked up at camp by a parent/guardian within 24 hours of the positive test result. Because of the duration of the isolation period, along with the nature of contagion, it is simply not possible to keep campers in isolation at camp for the required amount of time. Children would be able to return to camp after isolating at home for 10 days and getting cleared by their home physician as well as our camp physician.

What happens if there is a positive case of Covid-19 in my child’s cabin?
If a camper in your child’s cabin tests positive for Covid-19, you would be notified, and the entire cabin would enter into “CWW Quarantine Camp.” Campers in quarantine will be tested regularly and will participate in their own minicamp within camp for up to 10 days. During this time the cabin will have a customized camp schedule that still allows them to still participate in camp activities, but not with campers from other cabins.
