The Best Place to Spend the Summer

Camp Walt Whitman is such a special place. I feel really lucky that I get to spend my summers there.

One of the things I like about Camp Walt Whitman is that you get to pick two of your activities. My personal favorite is cooking. In cooking you make delicious food, for example doughnuts, garlic knots, monkey bread and chocolate chip cookies. You always learn quick and fun recipes that you can also make at home.

At camp you get to swim in both the pool and in Lake Armington. One special thing about camp is that we do a swim-a-thon to raise money for Morry’s Camp. It’s so much fun because your counselors support and encourage you to swim as many laps as you can, and when you’re done, you feel good because you did something to help other kids have a camp experience.

My favorite thing about camp is the CIT’s (Counselors in Training) because they do not feel like a counselor, but not a camper either, and it is a special relationship. They always help you if you feel homesick and they know how you feel because they were campers too.

You also have so many amazing friends that always help you along the way. Some of the best things that happen in the bunk and with your bunkmates are bunk nights, activities during the day, and rest hour. Some of the things my bunk did on bunk night are: bunk talent shows, truth or dare, and Irish stepdanincg. Also, you go on weekly hikes and 2 overnights every summer. During the overnights my personal favorites are playing hide and seek, playing king of the court, and roasting s’mores with my friends.
