Cheesy Pretzels

Makes 16 pretzels

1 1/2 cup flour
2/3 cup milk
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 tablespoons margarine or butter
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons flour
1 egg
Toppings: coarse salt, cinnamon sugar, oats, sesame seeds

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Grease cookie sheet.

Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, milk, oil, baking powder, salt and sugar in a medium bowl. Stir with a wooden spoon to make a soft dough.

Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of flour on work surface. Divide dough in half to make 2 balls. Roll each ball of dough around 3 or 4 times. Knead dough and let sit for 10 minutes.

Divide each ball into 8 pieces. Roll each piece into a foot long snake. Twist together to look like a pretzel, pinching the ends to seal. Put pretzels on greased cookie sheet.

Beat egg and brush over top of pretzel. Sprinkle lightly with topping of choice. 

Bake 9 to 11 minutes until pretzels are light golden brown. Let cool.
