Living and Laughing Together

Camp Walt Whitman is a place where kids have fun and everyone is open to new ideas and experiences.

Developing friendships is easy. The focal point of the Walt Whitman experience is the Cabin Group, which forms a camper's summer family. Not only do campers live together in their cabin, but they also participate as a group in many of their activities throughout the day.

Through living and learning together, campers really get to know and like one another. They learn how to accommodate and respect each other's differences and, in the process, become good friends. As a result, campers frequently visit each other throughout the year and remain friends long after the summer's end.

Making lifelong friendships is a priceless part of your child's summers at Walt Whitman.

Three staff members live in each cabin. The two cabin counselors stay with the group all day; the third, an activity specialist, is assigned to teach one of our programs. The result is a strong, cohesive group of children, supervised by adults who know them well and can appropriately encourage, motivate and provide guidance and fun! All cabins are comfortable and are equipped with electricity, full bathrooms and outdoor porches, which serve as a leisure-time gathering place.

Mealtimes Promote The Family Feeling

Our dining hall is a glass-fronted building offering spectacular views of the lake and mountains beyond. Set in this environment, mealtime is an extension of the warm, family atmosphere that permeates the camp. Campers sit with children from their own group along with their counselors, and friendships are extended as seating is rotated during the summer.

Maintaining A Healthy Community

Prevention is our goal in health care at camp. Children thrive with fresh mountain air, nutritious food and a well-rounded activity and recreation program. In the event of illness or injury, the resident health care staff, comprised of a Physician and 5 Registered Nurses, is available 24-hours a day. In addition to our fully equipped health center, the camp is only 35 minutes away from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
